Professional Aluminum Frame Quality Control: Accord Ensures Excellence from Material to Assembly

Aluminum Alloy Frame Materials

The mainstream aluminum alloys used in bicycle frames are 6061 and 7005, known for their balance of strength, lightness, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability.

  • 6061-T6: Tensile strength of ~310 MPa, yield strength of ~270 MPa, excellent weldability, and can regain strength after heat treatment.

  • 7005: Higher tensile strength (~350 MPa), does not require post-weld heat treatment, but is more difficult to shape.

Welding Techniques & Processes

  • TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) Welding: The most common method for aluminum frames, ideal for thin tubes, producing precise welds but requiring skilled operators.

  • MIG (Metal Inert Gas) Welding: Faster and suited for mass production, though more demanding on equipment and operator skill.

  • Automated Welding: Six-axis robotic welding ensures precision and consistency, reducing human error.

  • Heat Treatment (T6): Typically applied post-welding to restore mechanical strength and fatigue resistance.

Quality Control from Factory to Frame

At Accord, quality control is not about imposing requirements unilaterally—it’s about working with factories to understand their production realities and finding the best balance between efficiency and quality. The process includes:

  1. Raw Material Inspection: Verifying alloy certificates and chemical composition to ensure 6061-T6 or 7005 standards.

  2. Tube Preparation & Forming: Precision cutting and hydroforming for accurate geometry.

  3. Pre-Welding Alignment: Using professional jigs to secure tube positions and angles.

  4. Welding & Heat Treatment: TIG/MIG or robotic welding followed by T6 heat treatment to restore strength.

  5. Geometry Verification: Checking alignment and dimensional accuracy with fixtures.

  6. Surface Treatment: Sanding, anodizing, or powder coating for aesthetics and corrosion resistance.

  7. Performance Testing: Conducting fatigue, impact, and strength tests according to ISO 4210-2 standards.

We act not just as supervisors, but as coordinators. We recognize that factories face real challenges with deadlines and costs, so we assist by improving processes, refining jigs, and designing inspection methods to help balance efficiency with quality. This ensures that both clients and suppliers benefit in the long run.
